Deep Sea Diver – Shovel

Seattle-based trio Deep Sea Diver return with “Shovel,” the first glimpse of their forthcoming album Billboard Heart, due February 28 via Sub Pop Records. Marking their debut with the iconic indie label, the album promises an ambitious leap forward for the band, blending grunge roots with electro-rock ambition.

“Shovel,” written by lead singer and guitarist Jessica Dobson, navigates themes of searching for beauty amid despair, with Dobson herself stating that the song represents “digging and dancing with a shovel in the middle of the night.”

The single is accompanied by a one-take video co-directed by Dobson and Tyler Kalberg. While Dobson’s description evokes influences like David Lynch and Nick Cave, the video refrains from overshadowing the music, instead amplifying its themes through stark, nocturnal visuals.
